Since the time of gifts, velvet has been a fabric used to furnish palaces, from curtains to seating coverings such as armchairs and sofas, and also as fashion in clothing.

Velvet sofa – a wonderful aesthetic

Always a great trendy proposal in furnishings, velvet represents a wonderful aesthetic. In fact, you can dress a sofa without being ancient and pompous, but at the same time refined and elegant.

The Doimo choice for your velvet sofa

The Doimo company covers the sofas with a wonderful velvet-effect fabric called CATIA, made of 100% polyester, hand washable at 30 degrees. Be careful not to spin, do not bleach, do not machine wash and use an iron at minimum temperature. Very beautiful in the anthracite, cream, coffee milk, dark brown, gray and pearl grey, emerald green, sugar paper and finally cobalt blue versions. If we want to stick to earth tones we can choose between melon, golden coral and garnet red.

Alternatively, we offer you a fabric called ALICE, also in 100% polyester but more often with stain-resistant and water-repellent, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-mite properties. This fabric has an irregular texture, creating a three-dimensional geometric effect, which renders in the entire color range. We recommend aquamarine, turquoise, aubergine and milk white and cream for a modern look to your home. Not least the grenade for a regal effect!

Always stain removable and water repellent, but with properties of unshrinkability, therefore with great resistance characteristics, for example to pilling and thread sliding, it is called LIVELY, and the name almost doesn’t do it justice, because its softness is incredible and the texture creates an almost melange effect with an imperceptible white background. The micro-dotted combination of peony tones for example, or lilac and light olive green is wonderful.

Also in 100% polyester, we offer you a gem of pearlescent fabric called DADDY, with the shine of silver, an effect accentuated especially in cold tones, from pearl gray to sea blue, teal to deep cobalt, passing through the emerald green and moss green. If your tastes meet warm tones then the choice could fall on milky white or antique pink, with effects that will amaze you, especially with the right lighting.

If you are a velvet purist, then the choice will fall on YOU, a fabric always in 100% polyester, with characteristics of simplicity and lightness. No use of solvent is recommended because it could stain and lose that beautiful matt and soft color that distinguishes it.

If you follow technology trends, we can’t hide you WRINKLE (Doimo registered trademark), a piece-dyed velveteen, produced with a very resistant polyester yarn, a velvet that “breathes” and does not pill or crease, very resistant to breakage, to traction, to the sliding of the threads, to abrasion, and from color fastness, to rubbing and water resistance. There is no need to iron and you can easily wash it in the washing machine at 30 degrees.

Maintenance and cleaning

Considering that the fabrics just described must be hand washed at 30 degrees, except for Stropicccio, in general it is recommended to follow the following instructions and never use solvents or acetone. For hot drinks, including coffee, you must wash with neutral soap foam; if the stain remains, dab with 10% ammonia.

If you stain with soft drinks, such as wine, dab with water and 50% vinegar and then wash with neutral soap foam. If you stain with sweets, chocolate or blood, you need to dab with warm water, or with ammonia diluted to 5%. For ink, chewing gum and shoe polish or tar, you need to dab with an absorbent fabric soaked in 90% ethyl alcohol, or use turpentine essence, which comes from the resin of conifers and costs a few euros per bottle .

For oily stains, however, you need to remove them dry. Finally, for cosmetics, you need to wash in neutral soap foam; if the stain persists, use 5% diluted ammonia or 90% ethyl alcohol.

Beyond velvet: fabric contaminations for an effect bordering on elegance

fabric combination 2We are always talking about polyester, but in this case we can combine fabrics such as ALENA UNITO with ALENA FIORE: it is a solid color velvet that can be similar to a floral one with the velvet design and the bottom also in plain colour. The effect is that of brocade. It should be washed by hand at a maximum of 30 degrees, it cannot be ironed or bleached.

In addition to polyester, for refined tastes we also offer the fabric in the photo called MONOPOLIES, which recalls hippy-chic contaminations, in viscose, linen and cotton, which can be combined with polyester fabric SYMPHONY, available in the solid tones of Chantilly cream, cognac, teal and royal blue, or baby blue and pistachio, but also purple, garnet, bright brick, or in the romantic nuances of rosé.

Indeed, there are melange yarns in viscose, linen and cotton with small velvet spheres, which create a dotted design on a white background.

Finally, we have chosen for you a wonderful composition of fabrics, which takes inspiration from African, Middle Eastern and Nepalese fusions. The names of these fabrics are: KATMANDU and TRICIA (which derives from the historical region at the extreme tip of the Balkan peninsula, which today corresponds to a territory between Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey); the first is in acrylic and polyester, the second in polyester, cotton and linen.

Fabric combinationThese two fabrics are so particular because they have a geometric pattern of triangles drawn without a pattern  a floral one that recalls damask.

From the contamination of the Far East and the Middle East, other fabrics are born that transport us to African atmospheres and can be combined with the two main ones. The SMOKE, a smooth shaded effect velvet, in acrylic and polyester, then the CIAD, a velvet with a 3D effect that gives irregularity, the DAKAR, a soft and melange two-tone velvet, which recreates the effect of a sweet ethnic weave, within which there is a percentage of wool; finally the NOMAD, in cotton and viscose, a fresher and more fashionable velvet, striped horizontally, which recalls oriental carpets.

Shades and patterns, three-dimensionality and ethnic references for a twirl of symphonies that satisfy every taste.
