What is a Smart Home?
Technological devices can communicate with each other thanks to a smart speaker, a device that is activated via voice recognition thanks to the wi-fi connection and an app installed on the phone. A very sensitive microphone intercepts our voice and returns an answer to a question such as: “What’s the weather like?”, “What time is it?”, or performs a function, for example turning on the light, playing music, operating the shutters and so on.
These smart devices can be connected to other appliances, from appliances to light bulbs, from TVs to sockets and thermostats. Obviously there must be compatibility between the speaker and the accessory.
Which speaker to choose?
We need to start from the choice of speaker, to then understand which products are compatible. The market is dominated by the two web giants, Amazon and Google, the first to have launched the software in the Italian language: on the one hand we have “Echo” with Alexa voice assistant, on the other there is Google Home with the Google Assistant software .
Alexa is a technology that uses artificial intelligence on a desktop speaker called Amazon Echo. Three components are basically necessary: a wi-fi connection, an Amazon account and a smartphone app called Alexa. Google Home instead, it offers a dual functionality: you can ask the speaker to carry out even complex actions on your behalf, such as checking appointments in the diary, and secondly you can use it as a hub to connect smart devices, to ensure that your home becomes smart quickly and easily.
It must be remembered that continuous progress leads to the creation of increasingly innovative equipment every day, so in the future it is advisable to regularly consult new releases, thus keeping the house constantly updated. Who knows how the future will surprise us…
